Prince Edward Island's efforts to protect wild Atlantic salmon are being criticized by conservationists.

Conservation groups from around the world are meeting this week in Bar Harbor, Maine, to talk about what is and isn't being done to protect the species.

"One of the problems in P.E.I. is they actually do no monitoring of the runs that are coming back to P.E.I. They used to have a counting fence on the Morell River. They stopped doing that so there's absolutely no assessment done there," said Sue Scott, of the Atlantic Salmon Federation.
