ECO-PEI AGM – Screening of “Island Green”

The Environmental Coalition of PEI is holding its annual general meeting on Tuesday, January14th at the MacKinnon Lecture Theatre, Prince of Wales Campus at Holland College (Kent St. entrance).

The business meeting will commence at 6:30pm and from 7-8pm there will be two presentations on issues surrounding Island agriculture.

The first will be a screening of “Island Green”, a documentary by PEI filmmaker Mille Clarkes. “Island Green” is a National Film Board production that “celebrates the work of all farmers, while asking a hopeful question: what if PEI went all-organic? Through the combination of stirring poetry by Tanya Davis, intimate imagery of the bucolic island, and the wise words of some of PEI’s most innovative farmers – Island Green offers a possible way forward for the future of the family farm.”

Next, wildlife biologist, researcher, and retired UPEI associate professor Daryl Guignion will give a talk on water availability and the potential consequences of lifting the provincial moratorium on deep water wells for irrigating potato crops. Daryl has spent a lifetime working with educators, policy-makers, and community organizations to encourage more respect and protection for the natural environment.

Mille and Daryl will be part of a panel of people knowledgeable on the subjects covered, who will be available to take questions and be involved in a general discussion.

Everyone is welcome to attend the meeting to discuss these these topics that affect all Islanders.  In case of poor weather, the snow date will be Tuesday, January 21, same location, same time.
