Healthy coastal habitats are best equipped to adapt to our changing climate. This project, aims to provide coastal property owners and businesses with the resources, and hands on training needed to take positive climate action. Living shorelines and nature-based solutions are effective tools to combating climate change while creating vibrant coastal communities. A Community Based Approach to Restoring the Coastal Shield in Prince Edward Island, combines community outreach, training, hands on restoration work on four Provincial Parks sites, as well as produce free educational resources needed to provide a compelling alternative to hard armouring.
We are excited to get you involved! This spring we will be hosting four webinars delving into our Island's coastal ecology, common challenges that landowners face when deciding what actions will lead to a more resillient shoreline, and

Our work on Krummholz is funded by A PEI Forested Landscape Priority Place Project.
PEI’s coastal forests are an at-risk, diverse, and complex ecosystem. This project seeks to develop a better understanding of krummholz and the roles they play in our island environment. Krummholz are integral to the protection of our coasts, as well as providing habitat for a wide variety of species. Instead of seeing these areas as wastelands that serve no purpose, we intend to understand their true values. They provide wildlife habitat, store carbon, help slow erosion, and make it possible to grow less-hardy trees that would not survive without their protection.
